Quotable Quotes

"America seems like a medieval country . . . a Communist country on the educational level, because there's no freedom of choice -- not for parents, not for pupils." -- Kaat Vandensavel, who runs a government school in Belgium

You could have titled this one "You've been scammed" also the public school system in the USA us in fact a scam. Our system was at one time pretty good. Then in the 1960's the Federal government got into the act as well as the socialists of the various teachers' unions. Now education is secondary to brainwashing and turning out neat little dittos of socialsim. Johnny can't read and can never get a decent job but it ain't his fault it is the fault f those who did learn how to read and got a good job and they must be made to support Johnny.

Ahhh, there it is!

Thomas Sowell is one of my favorites. You might be interested, Guy, in how he remembers moving from the public school system in N. Carolina to the one in NYC, and his comparison of what's happened over the years between the two.

Unless it's changed and it may have, earning a NYS Regents' diploma wasn't based on scoring a "given level" on an exam. It was a completely separate exam (on top of class finals in some / most cases) given statewide on different subjects that you either passed or didn't, and in certain areas, a totally different, more intense course of study.

The freakin' exam packets were delivered to and picked up from the school in padlocked metal boxes.

Joe at Attaboy grew up 'round where I did. I'm sure he remembers Regents' exams, too.

America has a wonderful education system, imo.

Britain has too.

Australia also.

All these countries could spend more money on education as we, surprise surprise, are well into the information age where education is everything.

Socialism=caitalism did you know? Look at the Chinese. :-)
