Illegals Deadlier Than War On Terror
by American Daughter

This past Thanksgiving evening, a United States Marine who was home from Iraq was driving with his date, when another car smashed into theirs and killed them both. The other driver, who was not even injured, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

On the early broadcast news in Washington, DC this morning (Thursday, November 30th), some stations carried the report of this incident, and described the drunk driver as an “illegal immigrant.” By the time the 7 AM news came on, that version of the story had been quashed.

The main-stream media versions of the story do not mention the illegal status of the accused driver:

Driver Accused Of DUI In Crash That Killed Marine Home For Thanksgiving

COLUMBIA, Md. - A local Marine was killed Thanksgiving night in a crash caused by an alleged drunk driver. Brian Matthews, 21, of Columbia, Md., was driving with a date, 24-year-old Jennifer Bower of Montgomery Village, in his car on Thanksgiving night.

A driver hit them in Columbia, killing them both.

Matthews had served in Iraq and was home for Thanksgiving.

Matthews’ mother says her son had just signed up to be an organ donor and his organs helped save six other people.

Eduardo Soriano, 25, the driver of the other vehicle, was charged with driving under the influence.

This additional information comes from a news channel in Baltimore:

Matthews had served in Ramadi, Iraq, as part of the Fox Company 2nd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment.

One of his family members said he was the kind of person who would do whatever he could to help others.

Matthews, who recently trained in the Pacific Ocean, had just celebrated Thanksgiving with his family when he and Bower went out on a date….

Police said the driver of the other car, 25-year-old Eduardo Soriano, failed to stop at a traffic signal and hit Matthews’ car.

Soriano wasn’t injured but was charged with driving under the influence. Court documents showed he had a blood-alcohol level of .32. The legal limit is .08.

Soriano is also charged with two counts of manslaughter while intoxicated and homicide by motor vehicle.

Matthews graduated from Howard High School in 2003. He was an Eagle Scout.

According to statistics compiled by US Congressman Steve King (R-5th CD Iowa),

  • 13 Americans are killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals

  • 12 U.S. citizens die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day in crimes

Do the math.

[ (12 + 13) x 365 = 9125 ]

That’s more than nine thousand people killed every year in the United States by illegal aliens.

By contrast, consider the death toll for US servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan since the beginning of the war on terror, as reported last week by the Department of Defense:

  • Total U.S. troop deaths in Iraq as of last week were reported at 2,863.

  • Total U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan during the five years of the Afghan campaign are currently at 289.

Again, do the math.

[ (2863 + 289) divided by five years of war = 630 ]

So illegal aliens in the United States are more than fourteen times as lethal (14.48 actually) as a full scale armed conflict.

Quod erat demonstrando.

Our mainstream media outlets are strangely silent about this. Do we hear them constantly beating a drum about THIS civil war? No. Their selective reporting amounts to blatant prevarication.

As a Vegitarian American
(Democrat)I resent having
to pay the kind of prices
for lettuce that would occur
if we did something about illegals. It's Bush's fault anyway. Saying they are worst
than terrorist is pure
Karl Rove.

Thank you for stopping by, Word-Drum, and for your reply. Your response was so filled with silly platitudes I originally thought you were joking, but then I looked at your site with its single entry and realized you're probably quite serious. I hope you'll forgive me for not showing a link to it, but it's really not worth the time to even click on.

Let me assure you as a card-carrying (Food Lion, Winn Dixie, Sam's Warehouse, etc.) carnivore, I couldn't care less that you, a "Vegitarian [sic] American (Democrat)," "resent" that might have to spend more for lettuce "if we did something about the illegals." I imagine that the volume of Americans who have been injured by and family members of those killed by illegal aliens — which was the specific subject addressed in this particular Blogburst, that you obviously didn't even bother reading — might feel just a bit of resentment, too.

I don't eat lettuce much anymore, myself. I haven't bought a head since . . . well, I can't remember because it's already so expensive. It's not that I can't afford to. I just refuse to pay that much. If the cost becomes prohibitive to you, may I suggest you do the same.

As for it being "Bush's fault anyway," you are partly right, but not for the reason you stated. Dubya has been and remains a supporter of these danged amnesty-for-illegal-aliens proposals.

Dear Sir, It was a joke.
I'm not sure you saw
my site. It was down
mysteriously yesterday and has
many entries and much music.
Just trying to lighten
what is, as you state, a bad
situation. Thank you for your
post. I've also heard this
story from other sources. But
the connections you make are
both startiling and important.
I Love Meat and Bush,
Can we try this again?

Sir, I have never been hacked
before. If you have the
time, I'd like to know
what you saw. That is if
you believe my John Kerry
(It was a botched joke).

I apologize, Word-Drum. It seems my first instincts were correct. I don't think you were hacked. Your site apparently didn't load fully when I looked at it. All I saw was your latest entry and not even all of that.

I can see nowthat you were joking, so please don't call your satire a "John Kerry," although I think you've supplied a new way of referring to a botched joke.

Thank you for complimenting the entry you replied to, but I didn't write it. Look at its last paragraph for the explanation, and links to many previous Guard the Borders Blogbursts.

Again, please accept my apologies.

(Hopefully I apologize better than Kerry does, yes?)

On the other hand, farmers are more profitable than ever, as they reap a "windfall" from the global surge in food prices. As we pointed out in June, they are also a massive beneficiary of federal subsidies. In 2005, the USDA reports that net farm income in the United States was $77.1 billion. Of this, a whopping $24.4 billion consisted of direct subsidy payments. Further, the OECD estimates that (as of 2004) farm subsidy programs increase food costs by $16.2 billion annually, constituting a transfer from food consumers to American farmers.

In total, subsidy proceeds made up 53% of farm profits! Now, food prices are going through the roof, straining the budgets of working families so that heartless, greedy agribusinesspeople can make even more money. Isn't it time for the government to take back a "reasonable" share of those agribusiness profits, especially since a majority of them came from government largesse?

This Windfall Farm Profits Tax initiative fits in so well with the Obama notion of tax fairness that I've taken the liberty of updating some of Obama's prepared remarks about oil from an April speech, which he can use to introduce it. Changes are underlined:

It isn't right that agribusinesses are making record profits at a time when ordinary Americans are going into debt trying to pay rising food costs. In the paper today, there was an article about how millions of Americans are falling behind on their beef jerky bills, and a record number of Americans could face reduced portion sizes over the next two months. That's why we'll put a windfall profits tax on farm products and use it to help Indiana families pay at the supermarket checkout and reduce the cost of stuffing their maws.

Remember, when the senator announces this landmark proposal, that you heard it here first.
